FAQs

Lighting - Do you have a studio?

I am an 'on location' photographer, and as such, I use primarily ambient (natural) lighting. However, I have an external flash and diffuser used mostly for evening events such as parties, concerts, and dances. My soft-light diffuser provides an attractive glow and disperses the light evenly, even for large groups.

Portraits - How do I look my best?

Each portrait session includes 2-3 full outfit changes. This is your time to be a model! General recommendations will say to choose solid colours and avoid distracting prints such as stripes and floral patterns. If you are a couple or family, try to match by a colour palette (such as autumn colours), and not completely matching (like white shirts and jeans). This is also a great opportunity to play with makeup, as the post-processing picks up on subtle colours and shiny eyeshadows. I appreciate accessories like hats, jewellery, and coats, and even props like books, bags, and musical instruments. I'll definitely give you pointers on poses, but remember that the best shots are usually taken when you feel comfortable. Remember to be yourself!

Portrait pricing - Why is it more expensive than event pricing?

Event photography requires much less post-processing than  portrait or wedding, and is priced accordingly. I spend typically 4-6 hours after a portrait session and 20-30 hours after a wedding to eliminate bloopers, fix scenery flaws, and soften/contrast/increase lighting to provide consistency.  While I do not believe in over-photoshopping to create a 'hollywood' version of your natural beautiful self, I do believe you should feel flattered. This extra attention and time is not provided for event photography, although I do tend to make a few alterations.

Weddings -  What is on the contract?

The contract states that the 50% deposit to hold the date is due at the time of signing, and the remainder due after the photos have met your approval. The contract states that a full refund is in order if you are not satisfied with the photos and/or service. I provide a contract for your peace of mind, as organising your big day should be calm and focused on you!

Prints - Do you provide them?

No, I prefer to give you the full-resolution jpegs, copyright-free, online through dropbox. You can share them online and print as many as you like. This is one of the perks of my photography, as many photographers depend on prints for income. Enjoy!
